The only people who like capitalism are capitalists...the profit-takers. Your efforts to meld economic theory with ancient religious idealogy makes a weak, biased, unacademic argument.

The other thing I was thinking was a couple of questions if any wants to take them up.

1. Does self-interest = greed?
2. Does Capitalism require the conditions of the Competitive Model?

There is no point in me answering these questions. After all, Phaedrus said I am being blocked and ignored. So I can't really have this discussion now can I?

Just kidding, I'm not reading that. lmao

Good because it's a waste of time. He quoted a Glen Beck article and that itself is creepy.

Well, Norton, there's the rub. The Competitive Model is based on the assumption of free enterprise, unrestricted labor supply and equal access to resources and markets. However, Capitalism can exist without any of these conditions, since the only real requirement is that capital be held in private hands. Those can be very few hands and can create huge disparities in resource distribution which, in turn, creates an inefficient economy that does not provide adequate payment to all factors of production. But it is Capitalism.

And this is a problem why?? The socialist feels everything is supposed to be distributed evenly to make things "fair". No matter if a person works hard or not. No matter if a person is skilled or talented or not. Under a Socialist system, there is no incentive to strive harder. There is no reward! Under Socialism, hard work is discouraged. After all, one who is harder working, and more talented, is forced to redistribute the fruits of his labor with those who sit on their can all day and do nothing.

which, in turn, creates an inefficient economy that does not provide adequate payment to all factors of production.

Wrong! it creates a very efficient economy, because Capitalism only rewards those who produce. Those people, and businesses, that survive are ones that apply themselves. Under Capitalism, talent, hard work, skill, quality, sacrifice, and creativity is all rewarded with wealth. Those who do not apply themselves get exactly what they deserve which is very little. The Socialist does not feel this is fair, and wealth should be evenly distributed to all, irregardless of effort. Notice Phaedrus said, "does not provide adequate payment to all factors of production."? that is because Socialists feel you should get paid whether you show up for work or not. It's only fair! One cannot have too much! Under Socialism, if one gets "too wealthy", some of the wealth has to be taken away and given to one who has less. To balance things out. It's a "Robin Hood" mentality.

Socialism has never worked anywhere in the world. It has been repeatedly tried, and it always fails. It fails because those who produce only work to have it taken from them and given away to people who don't produce. So why work hard? What is the point? Why strive for excellence, quality, or quantity? There is no reward, so there is no point in putting out the effort. As a result, quality of goods and services goes down the drain. Every time strict Socialism has been tried; Capitalism always breaks out in a separate, underground, black market. There in the black market people can get the goods, services, and quality they demand. People are also compensated for the value of their goods and services. Has everybody already forgotten the economy of the former Soviet Union? The USSR was a prime example of what I am talking about.

Under a Socialist system, you can spend 40 hours a weeks working hard for $500. Or, you can sit at home for 40 hours a week, do nothing, and collect $500 in welfare. Why go to work? As a result, Socialism is an unsustainable economy.

Capitalism is something of a "survival of the fittest" environment for the economy. Only the hardest working, and most talented, are rewarded for their efforts. Capitalism does not enable laziness, and mediocrity. Another poster named "Cupcake" said it the best in another Aston thread called "Obamanation Care":

"I know I am going to get blasted for even saying this, but maybe our ancestors had it right. For those who didn't work hard or strive to become better, there was something called natural selection. Cruel? maybe. Let me also say there are those who just can't work or fend for themselves and that is what welfare is for."
